My friends at Google and specifically Wikipedia tell me: He is immortalized in the tale of Saint George and the Dragon and is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. His memorial is celebrated on 23 April, and he is regarded as one of the most prominent military saints.
Saint George on his mighty horse is depicted slaying the dragon on the front of our coin and the back reads:
Keep us safe,
day and night.
Give us courage,
strength, and might.
These days, those serving in our military aren’t slaying actual dragons but keeping all of us and themselves safe. This is something I know we are all so thankful for.
